What will it take?

Two women grew up on a farm together.  Many, many years passed until you would never guess that they were only one year apart.  One of the women moved, acted and looked much older than the other one.  They had a similar start but they led very different lives as adults.  I bet you can guess which one continued to feed her family simple, inexpensive farm food and which one began eating the same processed garbage that the entire country was beginning to eat at that time.

Last year my daughter and I were playing our violins at retirement centers every couple weeks.  People used to call them Old Folks homes.   I had to explain to my children that they weren’t old folks homes.  Look around.  How many people in their 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s do you see?  Far too many.  They would be more accurately called sick folks homes.  I certainly don’t intend to be old when I’m 50 or 60.  How many people do you know that are in their 90’s and are perfectly healthy?  Plenty and it’s no accident.

Cancer isn’t some alien disease mysteriously brought to this planet.  We know what it is and where it comes from.  At least the people that aren’t making a profit off of poisonous cancer treatments do.  It’s sold at your local supermarket and you can find it sitting in front of your television and computer all day.  It used to be that only old people got cancer but then middle aged people started getting it and now people in their 20’s and even babies are born with it because of their parents poor health.

I had poor health my entire life so it’s no surprise that all my children were born with poor health.  I have spent almost ten years trying to figure out how to help them when the doctors couldn’t.

So many people tell me they don’t need to change their diet or the way they move because they’re not sick.  If you’re thin you don’t need to worry because being thin seems to be the only goal of healthy movement and food for most people.  Do you think you will care how thin you are when you can’t get out of bed in the morning?  Will it take a serious illness in your family for you to start taking care of your health or will you start now?  Does anything else matter if you aren’t doing that one thing?  The food you eat today will give you the health you will have in twenty years.

It’s sad that the people that need something like the GAPS diet so desperately are exactly the people who are too sick to follow the diet.  It’s sad that I was too sick for years.  I had to work on movement to get myself well enough to even think about a stricter diet that would help my children and I so much.

I’m grateful that I finally had the energy to start the diet and that my children are all doing well and making such huge improvements physically and mentally.

It has made all the difference in our lives.

What can I do to help you get started?

P.S.  The cow is an example of the problems with our food, not the solution.
